HackNJIT 2022 has now ended!

Thank you to everyone who joined us this year and made this event great.

See you in 2023!

What is HackNJIT?

HackNJIT is a 24-hour hackathon at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, run by its ACM student chapter in conjunction with the Ying Wu College of Computing. Students break into small teams of up to 4, work together over 24 hours to create a tech project, and at the end present it to our judges! This year we are happy to announce that we are fully back in-person!

Covid-19 Policy

Is the event in person for everyone?

Yes! This year we are finally fully back in-person and everyone, whether from NJIT or not, is welcome to attend the event!

Do I need my vaccination card?

Yes! Since the event is in person we are requiring everyone to show proof of their vaccination. You may bring a screenshot of your vaccination card as opposed to a physical copy, however, this image of your card must be fully visible to show your full name and vaccination dates. The only exception to this is if you have a reasonable medical or religious reason, in which case you must provide a negative COVID test taken within 3 days of the event.

Are masks required at the event?

Masks are not required, but are strongly suggested for all participants for the safety of everyone participating.

Do we still have to social distance?

Social distancing should be practiced at the participant's discretion and is strongly encouraged.

Frequently Asked Questions:

When and Where is HackNJIT?

HackNJIT 2022 will take place on November 5 - 6! It will be a completely in-person event at the NJIT Campus Center!

Who can sign up to compete?

Any undergraduate or graduate student at any college in the US, or any recent (within 6 months) graduate from a college, may register.

Do I have to register as a team?

No! You're welcome to register with your friends and compete with a team, but you can also register by yourself or even find a team at the event.

Can I use any of my old projects?

NO! The point of a hackathon is to build something original in a short time frame. That said, you are allowed to use open-source frameworks and third-party APIs, with proper citations of course.

Will there be food or entertainment?

Yes, and yes! Students attending HackNJIT enjoy free food, free swag from sponsors, tech workshops, and fun events — expect a bunch of fun in person events this year!

Will there be prizes?

Yes! Top teams are awarded a variety of prizes, including cash prizes from NJIT and special prizes from sponsors.

How big is HackNJIT?

We're pretty big! Each year, 400 - 500 students attend HackNJIT!

Do I have to pay to compete?

Nope! There is no fee required to signup or attend. It's totally free!

How many students do you accept each year?

As many students as apply! At this time, we do not accept/reject students on the basis of their registration.

Do you offer parking?

Yes, free overnight parking will be available to hackers at the NJIT parking deck located at 154 Summit St, Newark NJ.

What should I bring?

Bring a form of identification, and whatever you need to hack. This includes your laptop, your charger, and any hardware you'll need for your project. Note that we'll be running a hardware table, so you can borrow hardware (Pis, Arduinos, sensors, etc.) from us at any time during the event.

What shouldn't I bring?

We ask that you not bring your desktop or any other non-portable hardware to HackNJIT, as that will make it difficult for us to rearrange tables for judging, meals, and events. Of course, weapons, firearms, alcohol, and illegal drugs are strictly forbidden. If you can't take it on a flight, you can't take it to HackNJIT!

Do you offer travel reimbursements?

Unfortunately, we do not offer travel reimbursements at this time.

You guys haven’t answered my question.
